Programmes

Four programmes, one family

Two child-centred programmes and two mother-centred programmes, designed to work on the same household at the same time. A child cannot be lifted out of a situation that the adults around them are still falling through.

Knowledge and Inclusion for Development and Success

Educational assistance that keeps children of incarcerated mothers enrolled, equipped and progressing through school.

KIDS is the Foundation’s flagship child-centred programme. It exists because the first thing a household loses when a mother is detained is not affection but income, and the first expense a household cuts is the one that has no due date attached to it, which is almost always school.

The programme meets that shortfall directly. Enrolled children receive Balik-Eskwela kits at the start of each school year, continuing educational assistance across the year, and access to tutoring support through the Foundation’s partners. Assistance is conditional, transparent and reviewable: scholars submit their report cards each grading period through the Scholar Portal, and continued support is tied to sustained academic standing rather than to a single test.

Children and youth

YAKAP

Youth Assistance through Kalinga, Alaga at Pag-asa

Psychosocial care, life-skills formation and the steady adult presence that a separated child most often loses.

A child does not only lose a household when a mother is detained. They lose the person who noticed when something was wrong. YAKAP, the Filipino word for an embrace, is built around restoring that noticing.

The programme provides structured psychosocial sessions, supervised family contact where the facility and the courts permit it, life-skills formation appropriate to the child’s age, and a named caseworker who stays with the family across the whole period of separation rather than only at distribution events.

SINULID ng Pag-asa

Support, Intervention, Nurturing, Upskilling, Livelihood, Integration and Development

Livelihood readiness, upskilling and reintegration preparation for incarcerated mothers, so release is a beginning rather than another shock.

Sinulid is the Filipino word for thread, the thing that holds a family together and the thing a mother works with. The programme treats a detained mother not as a problem to be managed around but as the person most able to change her children’s outcome, given the means.

SINULID delivers skills training and livelihood preparation inside the facility, savings and enterprise guidance, and structured planning for the months immediately after release, the window in which most reintegration attempts fail for want of income, documents or a place to live.

LAYA

Legal Assistance for Your Advancement and Advocacy

Legal assistance and case follow-through for mothers held for years without resolution, the single largest cause of prolonged family separation.

Most women in Philippine jails have not been convicted of anything. They are awaiting trial. Detention that is legally provisional becomes, in practice, a sentence served by the whole family while the case sits.

LAYA works on that specific bottleneck: paralegal screening, coordination with counsel, help assembling the documents a case needs to move, and accompaniment through hearings. Shortening a case does more for a child than any distribution event can.
